- Welcome to Our
Hello! I am your child's first grade teacher. I have been teaching first grade for 12 years. First grade is a very important school year as most of the foundations of learning are learned in first grade. Therefore, it is very important for your child to be in school every day and to read and write nightly. I also believe in an open line of communication. The best way to reach me is to send a note in your child's folder which I check every morning. Here's to a great year of learning!!!
The school year is passing so quickly! There is a lot of testing in the month of January and I am so pleased with the results! Your child is learning so much material, they are like little sponges! Please continue to discuss the school work that comes home, to read nightly and discuss the story elements: setting, characters, problem, solution, and have your child evaluate the book. If you are reading a non-fiction book have your child tell you three facts from the book and then evaluate the book (did he/she like the book and give a reason). These are life long skills your child is developing as they read!
Please add a writing component to your child's reading. Have your child create a new ending to the story. If your child has read a non-fiction book, have your child research the topic and write new information that he/she has learned. Your child will be ready for second grade in no time:)
