Welcome to our Website!
Week of February 13th- 17th:
We celebrated our 100th Day of school this week!!!! We are half way to 3rd grade and we are raising our expectations to that of 3rd graders. Continue to encourage your child to do his or her best every day!
We will be wrapping up opinion writing this week. On Wednesday, the students will be participating in their 2nd quarter writing prompt. Help your child prepare by urging your student to discuss their opinions and defend them (Some examples can be: My favorite ice cream is mint because it tastes so good! I really do not like green beans because broccoli is a much better vegetable) Encourage your child to write in a journal or diary and edit their writing. The students are forgetting to use capital letters and correct punctuation with their writing a lot and we need to correct that habit.
In reading, we are discussing main idea in both fiction and nonfiction books. Please talk with your child about what the main idea is of their book (what is it mostly about). I sent home a home-to-school connection paper, which has some great ideas on connecting reading to other things. Continue to encourage your child to read! Also, don't forget- reading in your home language is still reading!
In math, we are reviewing repeating patterns and learning about growing patterns. Please review skip counting with your child as much as possible. Also, look for patterns around you.
On Tuesday, February 14th, the students are invited to deliver Valentine Cards to their friends. Feel free to bring in cards for your child to share- they can be homemade or bought or not brought in at all. If you send in treats with the cards, please know that these treats will be sent home. Thank you!
Enjoy your week and Happy Valentine's Day!
