World Languages instruction in Spanish at Enterprise Elementary School is offered to students in grades K-5. Students receive at least 45 minutes of instruction every 4 days.
Through this program, all students develop basic communication skills in the target language while gaining a deeper understanding and appreciation of the diverse cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. Instruction is guided by the five goal areas of the National and Virginia World Language Standards: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities. These standards serve as the foundation for learning experiences that are integrated across multiple content areas.
Early exposure to world language learning provides students with a strong foundation for future language study, while also fostering cultural awareness, global competence, and lifelong learning skills.
Spanish at Enterprise Elementary is not a graded subject. We do not give homework. We use informal assessments and rubrics to determine how your child is learning and to guide our teaching.
I am looking forward to introducing the Spanish language and culture to all of our students, helping them in their new language acquisition. We will begin the year for Kindergarten and 1st graders by introducing basic greetings, numbers, colors, body parts, and everyday vocabulary. In 2nd through 5th grades, we will integrate previously learned vocabulary and concepts into more complex language structures. It is a priority that all students talk during class in Spanish to help them practice the new skills.
Thank you for the opportunity to teach your children. Their eagerness to learn brings excitement and energy to our program. Please feel free to contact me by email with any questions or comments.
